Why use an indoor grow space?

There are several great reasons for growing indoors. 

These include…

  1. Growing microgreens to add nutrients to your meals
  2. Growing vegetables and herbs all year ’round so you can have them whenever you want
  3. Starting your garden plants early so they get a head start while it’s still cold outside.

Equipment for growing indoors

The equipment I use at my house…and what I recommend for starting out…is a basic chrome wire shelf with 2 LED light fixtures on each growing level.

The shelf is from Uline and it is 6 feet high x 4 feet wide (across the front) x 2 feet deep.

This is enough to comfortably fit trays and small pots of a variety of plants on each shelf.

For example, on one shelf, I have 2 long planters…one with lettuce and the other with radishes.

On the next shelf, there might be up to 4 trays of different things like microgreens or 2 trays of small plants and some small pots of dwarf tomatoes.

These are the types of shelves I used daily in a greenhouse and grow room environment at the biotech company I worked for.

I don’t recommend the cheap and sometimes flimsy wire shelving that is available on Amazon.

Options for your Grow Space

Basic Set Up: $630

We can set up a basic shelf with accessories that will get you started.

The wire shelf (63″ high x 48″ long x 24″ deep) from Uline is $230.

And the LED lights from Sunco are $250.  This is the 6-pack, so there will be 2 light panels on each growing shelf.

If you find another shelf or lighting system you’d like to use instead, we can substitute those for your set up.

So for this basic set up, we will supply and assemble the chrome wire shelf and a set of LED lights for $630.

The set up service fee of $150 is included in this and includes a 30 minute demonstration with a walk-through of the equipment and all your growing options after we assemble it for you.

Additional options are available and include:

  • shelf mats (to keep lower levels and floor clean)
  • growing trays
  • light timers
  • heating mats (for seed starting)

These additional items are available at places like GreenhouseMegaStore or we can supply you with these at cost.
